Atwell Defends All-American Title

Glenn Atwell took down the April 17-19 stop of the Pechauer All-American Tour, besting Pat Schumacher in the finals. This tournament was hosted by Nite Hawk in Portland, OR, and the $1,500-added event honored the memory of player Dave Reavis and Nite Hawk owner Bill Mildenberger, drawing the maximum 48 players in a double-elimination 9-ball format on 8-foot bar boxes.
Defending champion Atwell didn’t lose a beat as he swept through the winners’ bracket to take the hot seat over John Plunkett 9-5. In the previous round, Atwell had comfortably turned back Schumacher 9-4, while Plunkett outscored Russ Pettis 9-7.
The one-loss bracket featured Matt Horner and Bobby Zack ending the event for Eddie Mataya and Steve Tune, respectively, at seventh place by identical 9-7 scores. Schumacher and Zack then finished off Horner and Pettis at fifth place by 9-5, 9-2 margins, respectively. Schumacher continued on, dominating Zack 9-2 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals Schumacher advanced by ousting Plunkett at third place 9-5. The final match was all Atwell again, as he methodically moved past Schumacher in the one-set finals 11-4 to acquire his repeat title in this event.
