Two Daves locked horns twice in the J. Pechauer All-American Tour stop in Virginia Beach October 4, with Dave Perry emerging as the victor both times. The $530-added amateur event drew 16 entrants to Smokie’s in Virginia Beach, VA.

When they met for the first time, in the hot seat match, Perry dominated David Wallace 5-1 and waited for his return. Only one of the three matches among the final four lasted beyond six games. Perry had dispatched Harry Kernodle to the one-loss side with a commanding 5-2 victory, as Wallace sent Bill Mason over with an equally commanding 5-1 performance.

Early going on the one-loss side featured a husband and wife match-up (John and Luz Selbe), won by the wife, who would subsequently fall to Mike Ewing to end up in a tie for seventh place with Alfredo Alcazar. It was Joe Hughes, however, who managed to work his way back closest to the finals, defeating first Carla Rosetti and then Alcazar before meeting Kernodle and defeating him 5-2 to enter the quarterfinals. Mason dropped Ewing 5-3 to meet him. Hughes advanced one more step with a double-hill victory over Mason and then fell victim to Wallace 5-3 in the semifinals.

Unlike their first meeting, the finals proved to be a struggle for the Daves. They battled back and forth to hill-hill, at which point, a critical error cost Wallace and benefited Perry. Wallace stepped to the table with only the 9 ball left and rushed a cut shot that, in essence, cost him $175. Perry took the cue, sunk the 9 and completed his undefeated bid.
